“Urban Decay, Outside Looking In” is the title of my project for a Landscape Photography course taken during the Summer 2018 term at City College San Francisco. The class challenged my perception of what “landscape” is: I used to think that landscape was just scenery – hills, trees, flowers, ocean – not so! There is architectural landscape too. The project was shot in Emeryville, California, at the Nady Systems buildings, on Shellmound and 67th Streets. Prior to 2018, these were beautiful buildings, but sometime after the first of the year, the buildings started to be graffitied, garbage piled up, doors broken, and window panes smashed out. Over the 2 weeks I worked on the project, each day I would return to see more damage to buildings and surrounding area.
